Our motto at Mprise Agriware is: people first. Our customers and colleagues come first with us. Who are the people behind Agriware and what motivates them? Meet Joop de Jong, founder and CEO of Mprise Agriware. What makes horticulture such a fascinating world for him, which Agriware moments will stay with him and what does he like to do when he is not busy with the company?

  1. What do you like to do in your leisure time?
Free time, for me, is all about relaxing. As director/owner of a fast-growing IT company, you always carry the company with you. That's why I really need to get out and about from time to time. For several years now, I have discovered long distance hiking together with my wife. By now we have traversed the Netherlands from North to South (Pieterpad) and from East to West (Marskramerpad, Trekvogelpad). There is nothing more relaxing, and in my opinion nothing more healthy, than a day of brisk walking along beautiful trails and through unfamiliar picturesque villages. It does take time, which is why it is not really a suitable activity for the free moments in between. Then I like to make music. I had piano lessons for years, but have since switched to organ music. Since a number of years I periodically get lessons on the beautiful instrument in the Sint-Jan church in Gouda.
  2. What makes horticulture an interesting world for you?
I find horticulture an interesting world because of the living product on the one hand, but on the other hand - and this is perhaps even more important to me - the type of people who work there. They are mostly down-to-earth doers who are averse to politics and are very committed to the company. Investments in IT must demonstrably deliver business value. At the same time, there is a tremendous drive for innovation and progress.
  3. What Agriware moment will you always remember?
That's quite a tricky question. I love to learn and I find all conversations that include those learning moments valuable. Important Agriware moments are often linked to new sales contracts. With some deals we really take the company further. These put us firmly on the map and are challenging for both Agriware product development and Agriware implementation.
  4. To which place do you prefer to go on vacation?
For over 30 years we have been going on vacation with a caravan. Previously, with the children coming along, we always went to the mountains in southern Europe. Since the children are no longer going we look for places in the Netherlands that support our passion for long distance hiking.
  5. What do you like to watch or listen to? (Music / film / art / books)
As mentioned before, making music is a hobby of mine. I have a daughter with a conservatory education. We went quite often to listen to performances by her at the conservatory. That sparked a very broad interest in different styles of music. Quality music I can quickly appreciate. However, my preference is the classical genre. I can also enjoy art, although there is little time for that. In high school, I even took an extra exam subject on art. I am also a participant in a philosophy & technology reading circle. A few times a year we get together to discuss a book. The theme "the influence of technology on our daily lives" fascinates me immensely.
