Meet Teresa Quijano, consultant at Mprise Agriware in the USA/Canada/Mexico team. What does she like about her job at Agriware, what is a guitalele and what part of horticulture fascinates her?
- What do you like to do in your leisure time?
I love music. I like to play guitar with my mother and siblings. When we were kids, we used to spend hours playing and rehearsing old and new songs, just for fun and not to be played in public. Of course, our parents wanted us to play at the family reunions, that is why my siblings and I used to hide the guitars when we had visitors over in our home. We couldn’t play if we didn’t have instruments! Today, I have a guitalele, kind of a ukelele with six strings, which is very easy to travel with. This year I started piano lessons! A personal challenge that I always wanted to take on. - What makes horticulture an interesting world for you?
Aside from it being the base of our food, I find horticulture a perfect match between nature and technology. Working with living beings gives a special satisfaction in daily life. One of my favourite parts of my job is visiting the clients and walking through their production greenhouses full of plants. At the same time it is a very challenging industry that requires the acquisition of technology. There are so many improvements that technology can provide in horticulture. In addition, each customer is different regarding processes and technology which makes my work fun by searching for a suitable personalization. - What Agriware moment will you always remember?
I will always remember the introduction weeks two years ago when I went to the Netherlands to meet most of my colleagues. They were all very friendly and open. I received a welcome bouquet and delicious Tony chocolate, how nice is that! - To which place do you prefer to go on vacation?
A few weeks ago, my husband Rodrigo and I went to Disneyland for the first time, and I loved the experience. I would be happy to go back and visit the other amusement parks around! In contrast, I usually enjoy quiet small places in nature, like a quiet beach or a small town in the middle of the jungle. - What do you like to watch or listen to? (Music / film / art / books)
I like to watch good comedy series. There are many types of comedy for different tastes, that is why it is sometimes difficult to find a good one. I like light family comedies like Modern Family, Malcolm in the Middle, Brooklyn 99, Seinfeld, etcetera. As for movies, I like Sci-fi especially related to other worlds or post-apocalyptic themes, but not the ones with zombies. Among others, I like Star Wars, Interstellar, Ender’s Game, Mad Max, The Hunger Games and Planet of the Apes.
